When 25-year-old mechanical engineer Ronan Quinn began searching for his first home, he was immediately drawn to the charm and warmth of Fordingbridge, a picturesque town nestled in the New Forest. There, he discovered Whitsbury Green—a thoughtfully designed new development by family-owned housebuilder Pennyfarthing Homes. At Whitsbury Green, the high-quality homes and strong sense of community made it an ideal place for him to set down roots.

Originally from The Midlands, Ronan moved towards Hampshire to follow his career where he rented a property in Southampton. He had bigger aspirations of owning his own home and settling somewhere more tranquil and rural.

Ronan says: “I loved the idea of living in the New Forest, and from my first visit to Whitsbury Green, it just felt right. I never imagined my first home would be such a high-quality, premium property, but buying with Pennyfarthing Homes turned out to offer the best value by far. This home stood out among other developments I’d seen, with its light-filled rooms and exceptional, high-quality details – like the oak doors and luxurious en-suite bathroom – which truly made it feel special.”

Ronan continues: “I chose this home with long-term living in mind. It is a wonderful community, and I can genuinely see myself settling down and raising a family here. The area has excellent schools, and the lifestyle is simply perfect – a relaxed, slower pace with everything that you need close by in Fordingbridge.”

Ronan purchased a double-fronted, semi-detached property, The Poundwood. Comprising three double bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen/dining area, separate living space and private rear garden with patio, Ronan’s first home also has a generous driveway and garage, which he is hoping to use as his own workshop.

Ronan comments: “I am really into cars, so I’m looking forward to making my garage into a small workshop, where I can work on the car I take often to shows. I am so excited about this – I even have a vintage car bonnet to place on the wall and decorate with! The other developments I viewed could not offer me this valuable extra space.”

Whitsbury Green is a collection of two, three, four-bedroom homes and bungalows set in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. Situated on the edge of the New Forest and built in a traditional English red-brick style, Whitsbury Green presents premium rural living in a convenient location. The development has excellent transport links, with easy access to major roads and Salisbury station, which is just 11 miles away.

Ronan adds: “I absolutely love the location. I never wanted a stressful commute, and now my drive to work is quite relaxing, and it helps me to unwind at the end of the busy working day. The only traffic I encounter is the occasional new forest pony – which, honestly, I find charming! I also enjoy hiking and country walks, and this area has endless options for scenic, peaceful routes.

“It is incredibly beautiful here and you cannot put a price on being amongst wildlife in this way. It’s just amazing.”

As a first-time buyer, Ronan also appreciated the support he received from the Pennyfarthing Homes team.

He says: “The team at Pennyfarthing Homes was incredibly supportive and accommodating throughout my homebuying journey, offering guidance at every step. I was even fortunate to receive part of my deposit as a gift toward the purchase, which made a real difference. From the moment I first visited the development, I felt completely at ease. I’d highly recommend Pennyfarthing Homes to friends, family, and especially to anyone buying their first home.”

Ronan has only been living in his new home for just over a month but is already enjoying the abundance of space and his new, relaxing lifestyle on the edge of the tranquil New Forest.

He concludes: “I am so looking forward to my friends and family coming to visit and showing them the lovely surrounding countryside. Whitsbury Green has so much to offer, and I feel very lucky to be living here in my first home.”
